The Truth About Money
Russ Somers
3/21/2019
The truth is money makes the world go round
It wobbles on its axis, winding down
The air is poison and the rain is vile
And we can’t all afford to come in for awhile
Have you heard the truth
The truth about money
Have you learned the truth
The truth about money
The truth about money is it leaves you spent
Whether you cash in your options or you hustle for rent
Burns a hole in my heart, burns a hole in my soul
Burns a hole in my love like the dust of coal
Have you heard the truth
The truth about money
Have you learned the truth
The truth about money
“The truth about money”, said Abel to Cain
“For a ten dollar rock I would bash in your brain
And, brother to brother, you’d kill me for less
It’s not the truth about money, it’s the truth about us”

Losers Write the Songs
Russ Somers
7/1/2018
Now you’re telling me, yeah you’re telling me how it all went down
And you fessed up that I messed up and got turned around
And your words they may sound righteous, but your melody’s so wrong
Because winners may write the history books, but losers write the songs
Now I’m telling you, yeah I’m telling you that I’ve had my fill
Loan me your wallet for a moment while I pay the bill
Cause I’ve seen the care you take with things to which you don’t belong
And that’s why winners write the history books, but losers write the songs
There should be a bridge to take us to forgiveness
But that’s not my forte, you’ll be my witness
You can write that part yourself, but don’t get the rhyme scheme wrong
Because winners may write the history books, but losers write the songs
They’ve done the math to prove you right down at the University
But in this dive bar tonight, they’ll hear my side from me
And you can hear it too, hey, if you wanna come along
Because winners write the history books, but losers write the songs
So write me up in a history book, and I’ll put you down in this song
Winners may write the history books, but losers write the songs
Now I’ll never dance with another
Because winners may write the history books, but losers write the songs

A Little Kindness
Russ Somers
1/2/2020
I understand that I’m not your man, but
Would a little kindness kill you?
I realize I’m being left behind, but
Would a little kindness kill you?
Can you look me in the eye
Why would you even want to try
The world is mean and getting meaner
Would a little kindness kill you?
But that’s not what comes between us
Would a little kindness kill you?
You could have walked away and let it be done
But that’s not what makes guys like you run
Now your words they come out righteous, but
Would a little kindness kill you?
I’ll have to pay you back with kindness
And I’ll hope it kills you
We could have walked away and let it be done
But that’s not what makes us run

It's All Right to Break
Russ Somers
8/4/2018
It’s all right to break, It’s all right to fall
When you try to stand up, and you can’t even crawl
It’s OK to miss, it’s right to be wrong
And pour the whole mess out in a song
It’s alright to break, it’s human to crack
Some dreams have to die before they come back
So what if they don’t ever come back around
It’s all right to break, it’s OK to break down
Verse
It’s alright to feel like you’re in this alone
Like there’s no one else who’s had to carry the stone
And that’s how it feels, but you’ll find you are wrong
Cuz nobody here has always been strong
Chorus 2
It’s alright to break, when there’s nothing but doubt
And feel empty within when you can’t go without
It’s OK to be lost and not know when you’ll be found
It’s alright to break, it’s alright to break down
Chorus 1

Waitin' On You
Russ Somers
Everbody’s waiting on something, what’s it gonna be
Are you holding out for heaven, are you waiting on the lottery
Actors wait on agents who are hanging on a call
Lovers wait on test results, their eyes against the wall
Everyone’s waiting on something
Everyone’s waiting on something
Long time overdue
Everyone’s waiting on something
I’m just waiting on you
Fifteen waits on driving, twenty wants to buy a legal beer
Twenty-one looks ahead and can’t spy the next significant year
It just might turn out to be sixty-five
Your life is nearly over, baby, what a surprise
Everyone’s waiting on something
Everyone’s waiting on something
Some kinda train to come through
Everyone’s waiting on something
I’m just waiting on you
You go up and down the dial, looking for that radio station
As you drive around the block waiting on your reincarnation
You never get rewarded for your trouble and your toil
You wanna make your coffee, boy that water just won’t boil
Everyone’s waiting on something
Everyone’s waiting on something
Long time overdue
Everyone’s waiting on something
I’m just waiting on you

All the Rage
Russ Somers
2/7/2019
Was it worth it, was it not, it all depends on what you got
And when you chose to make your getaway
Wrapped up in my desolation answering congratulations
Wishing all the best to those who stayed
I’d do it all again the same, almost
There’s not too much that I would change, but
Timing is a funny thing, that’s why I’ll always feel the sting
Of leaving you with all the rage
I was half a mile from Mercy, closer than I might deserve
But I was never getting any closer in
My feet and heart were broken by the words that went unspoken
On the rocks of paradise where I gave in
Chorus (there’s not too much that I would change)
All the rage as I lay bleeding, did you think I was succeeding
As the curtain callers pulled me from the stage
All the rage you feel inside, all the rage you cannot hide
Yeah, there’s nothing left but all the rage
Now the rage is all that’s left, call it business, call it theft
The pages, words, and people gone away
Much too slow and much too fast, there’s only one thing that will last
I’m leaving you tonight with all the rage
Chorus (but there’s so much that I would change)
I’m leaving you with all the rage
There’s nothing left but all the rage

Wisdom of the Ages
Russ Somers
3/6/2020
Blew my first shot at a second chance, but they say the third time’s a charm
This is your first rodeo but you tell me right from wrong
I’ll give your thoughts a listen, who knows, you might be right
Don’t tell me that you’re listening, too, if you’re just being polite
Chorus
The only thing I know by now
Is I don’t know the truth
I’d trade the wisdom of the ages
For the confidence of youth
I looked up your pictures and your daughter looks like you
That may not be surprising, but I say it cuz it’s true
Your mistakes were so much fun, but she will not condone
She doesn’t want her mother’s trainwreck, she’ll create one of her own
I thank you for your patience, I thank you for your time
I thank you believing that I was once in my prime
I’d gladly trade you everything now that I’m nearly done
If you’d just give me back the thing that’s wasted on the young
I’ll keep my wisdom of the ages, you’ll lose the confidence of youth

Cadillac Twist
Russ Somers
Lord don’t let me grow up too tall
Yeah, don’t let me grow up at all
Hey, don’t let me die like this
Standing here and doing the Cadillac Twist
Champagne limousine, six blocks long
Roll up the windows and it rolls along
I stand on the corner and shake my fist
That’s what we call the Cadillac Twist
The Cadillac Twist, the Cadillac Twist
The thing you can’t have you can never resist
The Cadillac Twist, the Cadillac Twist
I’m a consumer-oriented teenage punk
A little James Dean going on Donald Trump
I turn sixteen July the fifth
But I’m already doing that Cadillac Twist
Something is happening here, Mr. Jones
Did you lose all your money when the bitcoin imploded
If you ain’t got the capital to scratch that itch
You better start doing the Cadillac Twist
The Cadillac Twist, the Cadillac Twist
The thing you can’t
have you can never resist
The Cadillac Twist, the Cadillac Twist
Hit my head, I saw stars, so I made a wish
You shoulda seem ‘em in the eastern bloc
It looked like a scene from Rock Around the Clock
The streets were filled with communists
Learning how to do the Cadillac Twist
Twisting away and you’re covered with sweat
Pull out your credit cards and go into debt
You better twist just a little bit more
Until you wanna ride to your grave in a ford
The Cadillac Twist, the Cadillac Twist
The thing you can’t have you can never resist
The Cadillac Twist, the Cadillac Twist
Hit my head, I saw stars, so I made a wish
